Emeritus Induction Ceremony

Sunday, Oct. 16, 10 a.m. — Alumni Center-Grand Ballroom

Thank you, Scott, and good morning everyone!

As a member of the Emeritus Alumni Society, I’d like to extend a special welcome to the Class of 1966! I’m so glad to be with you as you celebrate your golden reunion.

Since my class was just inducted last year, I think I know how you’re feeling right now. You’re filled with pride, of course, and yet there’s also a sense of disbelief.

How is it possible that a half-century has gone by since you received your college degree? And, although you haven’t change a bit, how did your classmates get so, well, old?

After you get past all of that, though, let me tell you, being a part of the Emeritus Society is a wonderful thing.

Over time our appreciation of our blessings in life is greater and our memories sweeter.

We were all given an incredible opportunity to be educated at Florida State University. We were challenged intellectually, made lifelong friends and created lasting memories. Florida State shaped our lives.

Now, we get to look back at this university that we all love and see how it has grown and changed over the past 50 years. And we can see that we helped establish a strong foundation on which the Florida State University of today stands.

That’s something we can all be proud of. Thank you to all of the emeritus alumni, and to our new inductees — congratulations!
