"Issues in Education" Television Program
"Issues in Education," Florida State University President T.K. Wetherell's television program, airs the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. (EST) on WFSU-TV in Tallahassee and 6 p.m. (CST) on WFSG-TV in Panama City.
The program features a wide-ranging discussion of topics, including the challenges faced by public and private universities. The 30-minute program, co-hosted by Suzanne Smith of WFSU-TV and FSU-4, provides a platform for Wetherell to discuss critical issues in education with experts in education and related fields.
Programs are archived and may be viewed with either Windows Media Player or QuickTime (or with RealPlayer where indicated). Beginning with the May 2006 program, video is available in Flash format. Click on the thumbnails or titles below to view the program (broadband connection required).

Seminole Hisory The President of Florida State University talks about how the University is strengthening its ties with Seminole Tribe of Florida. Part of that effort includes FSU's new course on Seminole and Southeastern Native American history. President Wetherell talks about the class with Instructor, Dr. Chris Versen, and two students in the class. Jessica Watson is sophomore majoring in Social Work and Toni Sanchez is not only a student in the class, but an actual member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. She is one of three Seminoles taking the course. The President also discusses the upcoming USO Tribute show and his roll in the performance. |

Pathways of Excellence The President of Florida State University talks about the challenges of attracting a top-notch faculty when there is such a high competition level between Universities. He discusses a new initiative at FSU called Pathways of Excellence with the Chair of the project, Dr. Ross Ellington. The President also discusses with Dr. Gary Taylor one area of research to develop out of this project. Also discussed is the State of the University Address coming later this month, the new class on Seminole History, and the second annual Convocation Ceremony held recently. |

The Tumultuous Sixties Former FSU President Stan Marshall and alumnus J.T. Thomas, the first black student-athlete to letter in football at FSU, discuss turbulent times at FSU. Marshall, who led FSU from 1969-76, has just released his book, The Tumultuous Sixties: Campus Unrest and Student Life at a Southern University. Thomas and Wetherell, both students during Marshall's administration, join Marshall in recalling a time of dramatic upheaval on campus. |
