
The stars are similarly aligned at this time to support achievement of our new vision. Again, there is pressure for access to higher education and our political leadership, state and federal, have at least begun to talk about significant support for education. Already in place are many of the resources -- strong academic programs, distinguished faculty, excellent students, and growing financial resources -- that we will need to carry us to our destiny.

And our goals harmonize with the vision of the Board of Regents, whose ten-year strategic plan calls upon FSU to emerge as a premier research university, with strengthened graduate programs.

So let me outline some of the reasons for my optimism about The Florida State University as it embarks on this new vision.
